Specialty Tree-Themed Beer Tour - Saturday, March 2 - 12-4pm
Join us for a delicious experience with a great cause! On this special tour we will be visiting four Beer City breweries and drinking a tree-themed beer at each stop, amongst several other beers. You are probably asking, “What is a tree-themed beer?” A tree-themed beer is a unique beer that is made with various tree ingredients (some have berries, nuts, oak-aged, pine...). Get them while you can, these beers are very limited! We will donate $1 from each tree-themed beer to Friends of Grand Rapids Parks.
We'll be visiting Brewery Vivant, Harmony Hall, City Built Brewing Co. & Creston Brewery.
Tour includes 12 large samples of beer (including 4 tree beers) a private brewery tour at Brewery Vivant and transportation to and from the breweries with a knowledgeable beer tour guide.
Brewery Vivant is the only brewery in Michigan that creates Wallonian (southern Belgium/northern France) influenced ales. Wallonian influenced, but 100% American made. The beautiful taproom is housed in an old chapel, the brewery is housed in a livery stable that was built in 1915. Brewery Vivant is unique in every aspect!
Harmony Hall is a funky & eccentric brewery that is inspired by the great German Beer Halls. This locally owned brewery has hand crafted sausages, soups, salads and sandwiches... Just like the beer, food is made in house. Bring or buy a growler, you can only buy their awesome beers on location. They have various lagers, IPA's, porters/stouts and sours to list a few.
City Built Brewing Co. has an eclectic array of ales and food. Beers that already have a following are Flower Power (Pale Ale with green tea & camomile) and Chaga Khan (Chaga mushroom Imperial Stout). They specialize in Puerto Rican food. Their tacos are amazing!
Creston Brewery is a chill local brewery in the heart of the Creston neighborhood. They produce lagers and ales, and sometimes make unique beers such as smoked and tea infused ales. They use a lot a locally sourced ingredients such as hops, honey, coffee and fruit.
The Brewers Grove project started in 2013 when local brewers asked Friends of GR Parks (FGRP) how they could celebrate being named Beer City USA by giving back to our parks and public spaces. And the idea was seeded to create tree-themed beers that would be offered for a limited time with proceeds going directly to FGRP's Urban Forest Project and tree plantings. In 2013, a Brewers Grove of 30 trees was planted at Riverside Park with volunteers from local breweries, every year since then the number of trees planted have increased. To find out more (including the beers) please visit this site: http://www.friendsofgrparks.org/brewers-grove/
We'll be trying a juniper berry IPA, Chaga mushroom stout, Belgian Dubbel aged in bourbon barrels & Belgian Abbey aged in oak barrels.
This tour is Saturday, March 2 - 12:00-4:30pm.
*There will be an opportunity for lunch at the 2nd stop (City Built Brewing Co.)
